Case Study – Exercise Crossbar
 Feb 2013

Agencies from West, North and South Yorkshire participated as well as representatives from TdFHub 2014 Ltd.

The exercise on the day was based around several events and participants had to stick to a strict time-line as matters kept arising:

  • Protest by Fathers 4 Justice at Doncaster on the rail network

  • York Race Course “start” with public safety issues

  • Moorland fire at Holme Moss

  • Protestors at Menwith Hill

  • Chemical spillage at Oxenhope

  • Large screen collapse in Leeds at Millennium Square

In addition Health related matters were tested due to the issues surrounding York Hospital.

GRP2 was set up in the SCG and was used extensively for quick access to the correct map locations for each scenario.

Gaist’s 4 camera video survey of the route was also used to pinpoint precise locations on the route.

Exercise facilitator, Inspector Anwar Mohammed of West Yorkshire Police said “...the Gaist software worked a treat and was a great help…”

The exercise identified numerous areas for development and once again proved the value in thorough exercising and testing before major events.
