Case Study – ACT Group at York and Newbury Racecourses May 2014
"GRP2 added an extra dimension to proceedings as we were able to zoom in on appropriate locations and overlay data sets we had prepared in advance"
Gaist had the opportunity to assist the ACT Group with two multi-agency table top exercises at York and Newbury Racecourses.
ACT oversee Health and Safety issues at both venues and this includes annual exercises to test existing procedures and identify where amendments are required and if any training needs exist.
Phil Atkinson, Managing Director of the ACT Group said;
“Previously, I’ve relied on PowerPoint presentations interspersed with still photographs to illustrate locations of resources etc. GRP2 added an extra dimension to proceedings as we were able to zoom in on appropriate locations and overlay data sets we had prepared in advance.”
Both exercises were based on the existing emergency planning documents which each venue uses in the event of a serious incident.
By working through various scenarios, which were based on genuine incidents that had occurred previously at various venues, the plans were tested for currency and omissions. It also gave staff an excellent opportunity to use the plans as reference and increase familiarity.
